Seniors

Supporting senior Victorians' health and wellbeing.

We develop policies and manage programs that support senior Victorians to participate in community life, maximise their health and wellbeing, and age well, in close engagement with our sector partners.

Victorian Seniors Card program

The Victorian Seniors Card program makes it easier and more affordable for seniors to get out in the community, keep active and stay connected with friends and family by offering a range of discounts, services and public transport concessions. Through the Seniors Online website, we share information on services, programs and events to support seniors’ health and wellbeing.

Victorians Seniors Festival and Awards

Seniors make a valuable contribution to society and are workers, helpers, volunteers, parents, grandparents and carers in our community. The annual celebration of senior Victorians, the Seniors Festival, is held in October each year. In 2021 the Festival also includes online performances. The Victorian Seniors Festival provides opportunities for senior Victorians to participate in new and diverse activities events, try something new and improve their health and wellbeing. The Festival recognises and celebrates the talents, achievements and contributions of senior Victorians to their communities through the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards

Commissioner for Senior Victorians

The Commissioner for Senior Victorians, Gerard Mansour, provides independent advice and advocacy to the Victorian Government on issues relevant to senior Victorians. The Commissioner regularly meets with seniors and seniors organisations to hear their perspectives, raises awareness about key issues, actively promotes the positive contributions of seniors, and encourages seniors to fully participate in our community. The Commissioner’s role is not individual advocacy or for resolving complaints about government services.

Elder abuse prevention

Older people deserve to be safe, valued and respected. We work to raise awareness about elder abuse and support a range of prevention and response initiatives alongside our family violence reform agenda. Gerard Mansour is our Ambassador for Elder Abuse Prevention. Gerard works to increase awareness of abuse within the community and encourages older Victorians to take action to protect themselves.
