Brigid Monagle is the Acting Secretary of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH).
Before becoming Secretary, Brigid was Associate Secretary for DFFH responsible for a group delivering key services across the department and to ministers and strengthening the department’s engagement with Victorian communities.
She was the Deputy Secretary of Readiness, Response and Emergency Management Division, which is responsible for minimising the impact of emergencies, including the COVID-19 health emergency, by supporting the health and wellbeing of communities and individuals and coordinating relief and recovery across all emergencies.
In 2018, Brigid stood up and led the Fairer Victoria Division as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and oversee its inclusion in the new DFFH from February 2021 until October 2021. Fairer Victoria oversees Multicultural Affairs, Equality, Youth, Veterans, Senior Victorians, Women and Prevention of Family Violence areas.
Prior to this, Brigid was an Executive Director in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, leading advice in the areas of Aboriginal Affairs Policy, including Treaty and self-determination, health policy and reform and inter-governmental strategy. Brigid was previously the Director of Education and Justice Branch within the Department of Premier and Cabinet and spent some years working at The Treasury in New Zealand.
