Victorian Carer Strategy – Supporting the health and wellbeing of people with a care role

The Victorian Government has launched the Victorian Carer Strategy for 2025-2035.
27 October 2025

The Victorian Carer Strategy is about carers, their lives, and the rewards and challenges of providing care to someone who needs it. It outlines how the Victorian Government will recognise and support people with a care role.

There are more than 750,000 people with an unpaid care role in Victoria. Carers are diverse and every care relationship is unique.

The department worked closely with carers and the sector to make sure the updated strategy reflects their real needs and experiences.

The strategy focuses on four key areas to help guide how we support carers:

  • Awareness, recognition and respect
  • Quality services in the right place, at the right time
  • Participation, connection and opportunity
  • Recognise and support First Nations care relationships.

Carers are a vital part of our communities. They help make Victoria stronger, healthier, and more inclusive.

The Victorian Carer Strategy 2025-2035 is our plan for ensuring carers and sector organisations shape the government programs and resources that support them.

Together, we can support all Victorians with a care role feel valued and have better health and wellbeing.
