Victorian Aboriginal Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) - grant recipients announced

The Victorian Government is proud to announce 27 projects will share in $1.1 million to deliver innovative, culturally appropriate projects to prevent and respond to family violence.
9 April 2025

The successful projects were chosen based on how they meet goals of the Dhelk Dja: Safe Our Way – Strong Culture, Strong Peoples, Strong Families agreement.

Dhelk Dja is an Aboriginal-led agreement between Victorian Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal organisations and the Victorian Government. It supports Aboriginal people, families and communities to be stronger, safer and free from family violence.

Among the successful projects will be a trauma-informed Aboriginal women’s group, supporting Aboriginal women with lived experience of family violence.

Another funded project will be a two-day ‘hoops against violence’ basketball event and community sports days in Ballarat, working with young people affected by family violence.

There will also be a two-day Neernan (gathering) for Elders with a focus on cultural activities, raising awareness about elder abuse, yarning about local solutions to prevent and reduce family violence in the Barwon Southwest community.
