The Victorian Government has updated the Responding to Family Violence Capability Framework, which was first published in 2017.
It outlines the skills and knowledge professionals need to deliver effective, safe and culturally responsive services when working with victim survivors of family violence or people who use violence.
The framework is designed for any professionals who may interact with people experiencing or using family violence as part of their work, such as:
- court registrars
- childcare educators
- teachers
- child protection practitioners
- aged care workers
- disability support workers
- alcohol and other drugs workers
- mental health workers
- hospital and health workers
- family violence support workers
The Responding to Family Violence Capability Framework was revised in consultation with the family violence sector and representatives from workforces prescribed under the MARAM Framework including the specialist family violence workforce. It was updated to reflect the recent changes to family violence systems in Victoria, particularly with the rollout of the MARAM Framework. It now provides the latest advice on the skills and knowledge people need to safely and effectively work with people experiencing or using family violence.
The Victorian Government is developing two more frameworks for the family violence sector:
- Preventing Family Violence and Gender-Based Violence Capability Framework
- Responding to Sexual Violence and Harmful Sexual Behaviours Capability Framework
These frameworks will be released over the next year. Together, the three frameworks will support workforce planning and development across the family violence and sexual assault sector.
