More than $18 million for Victorian carers to access respite

The Victorian Government is providing more opportunities for people with a care role to rest, reconnect and restore their wellbeing
26 June 2025

More than 700,000 unpaid carers in Victoria provide vital care to family or friends with care needs. This number is growing.

Additional Respite for Carers 2025-27 will deliver $18.2 million over two years to 51 carer organisations.

The funding will provide more respite opportunities for Victorian carers, when and where it’s needed most.

Funded activities will include in-home and out-of-home care, group activities and a diverse range of tailored supports for carers of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances.

A key priority of the funding is ensuring carers who may experience marginalisation are supported.

This round expands access to culturally safe and self-determined respite options for First Nations carers, with funding allocated to three Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.

The investment in Additional Respite for Carers builds on funding of $22.4 million provided annually for the Support for Carers Program.
