Held every year on May 17, International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is a day to raise awareness about discrimination experienced by LGBTIQA+ people.
Much progress has been made to improve equality for LGBTIQA+ people, however over the past four years have seen instances of violence, hate, discrimination and vilification targeting Victoria’s LGBTIQA+ communities increase in frequency and severity.
It is important to celebrate and reflect on the progress made towards LGBTIQA+ equality in Victoria, while we continue to strive to make our state safer and more inclusive for everyone.
One of the best ways to do this is to have discussions and share resources.
If possible, listening to the stories and experiences directly from LGBTIQA+ people can bring the themes of IDAHOBIT to life in a way that’s engaging and relatable.
