Free pads and tampons rolling out statewide. Period.

Vending machines with free pads and tampons are now being installed across Victoria.
5 May 2025

This means more people will soon have access to free pads and tampons nearer to where they live.

When complete, 1,500 machines will be available at up to 700 sites across the whole of Victoria, with Gippsland TAFE among the first locations outside metro Melbourne to host machines.

By improving access to the pads and tampons people need to participate fully in school and campus life, these new machines will help break down barriers to education and make a real difference to Victorian students.

More free pads and tampons vending machines will be installed across Victoria throughout 2025 in public locations including:

  • public hospitals
  • TAFE
  • courts
  • public libraries
  • cultural institutions.

All local government areas were consulted and requested to nominate venues to ensure coverage across the state.

Fifty vending machines are already available across metropolitan Melbourne. These machines have dispensed over 20,000 period products and counting.

By making pads and tampons freely available across the state, this program is delivering important wellbeing and cost of living supports to our communities.
