Celebrate Wear it Purple Day 2026!

Support LGBTIQA+ young people on Friday 28 August
28 August 2026

Wear it Purple Day is a day to support young LGBTIQA+ people by fostering a supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environment.

Purple is a symbol of unity, bringing together people from all walks of life.

Minus18 is an Australian charity aimed at improving the lives of LGBTIQA+ youth, and a proud partner of the Victorian Government on a range of programs and initiatives.

According to Minus18, 55% of Australian queer youth said they’ve been discriminated against due to their LGBTQIA+ identity, and 92% wish the people in their life knew more about LGBTQIA+ identities to help them feel accepted.

These statistics support the theme of Wear it Purple Day 2026, Colours of Courage.

Courage can look like speaking up, standing out and creating change. It can also take quieter forms of bravery, like living authentically, coming out, asking for support, standing beside someone, or choosing pride and hope in spaces where being yourself does not always feel easy.

In Victoria, we want LGBTIQA+ youth to always feel comfortable and happy being unapologetically themselves.
